Sensitive Instruments
I've been drawing every day for over two weeks now. It's something I always swore I needed to do, and it feels good to finally stick to my guns about it. On the other hand, I've been having a rather ridiculous bout of artist's block lately (no doubt stress-induced), and haven't had that much to actually draw. So: lots of pottering about in the old sketchbook, but no real action.

At least that was the case, until I sat down, reread Salinger's Nine Stories (the literary equivalent of comfort food), and kicked myself in the ass a few times till the buildup of words uncorked my pen. It also helped to watch a ton of new movies, all of which managed to chart somewhere on the Graham-O-Meter (or Grahamometer) between 'Damn Good' and 'Jesus H. Mustard!'. Said films are:

I Heart Huckabees
Straw Dogs
Tokyo Drifter
The Wrong Man
Elevator to the Gallows

I now have some new illustration ideas and a five or six pager in the works. In the meantime, here's a one-page comic that probably took me longer to finish than it should have.

Eyes in a Field

Awesome! Give me a topic and I'll get right on it. In return, I'd like to be Sarah-Lomba-ized (you should patent that term) into one of your googly-eyed characters. Maybe doing one of my normal, everyday routines, like listening to music or playing chess ON THE MOON!

Did someone say a picture trade??? I love picture trades!!! This one-pager is quite lovely, I enjoy all the textures and moody lighting.

Is that an open invitation? Because I would kill a man to own one of your drawings (please let me kill a man to own one of your drawings).

Thanks! I'm particularly fond of the in-car panels, though their so hatch crazy I'm not sure how I got them to still be legible.

When are we going to see more of Mr. Magpie?

I always wanted to haunt somebody, but figured I'd have to die first to do it. So that's cool. Glad you like it!

I wish I had the discipline to write that much. And to write things comparable to what you draw.

I'm not sure I'd call it discipline. If I spent as much time writing as I did actively Not Writing, then that would be discipline. But I have a fear of blank pages, which means I either can't look at them or I have to feverishly fill them with work.

So I hope any and all writing you do ends up being a lot easier than my methods. And its nice to know that people think highly of the outcome, so thanks.
