Damn taxes!!

Still tweaking the writing on the new story, so in the meantime I figured I'd regale you with the absurdity that is my sketchbook.

Cat Mustache!

I might have to turn one or two of these ideas into a more finished illustration (Bigfoot suit, I'm looking in your direction). And to think that three weeks ago I didn't know what to draw.

Yeah, I tend to draw a ton random nonsense, and then ink the stuff I think is best. It keeps me limber. But I have a hard time believing that my sketches make YOU look bad. But thank you.

Yeah, I'm not sure where he came from, but I like him. I was planning on cleaning up the drawing and coloring it, maybe look into getting some prints of it. We'll see...

Oh, and thank you, of course.

Have you ever screen printed before, my dear G-Spot? Because these would make fantastically easy--and very wearable--prints.

I did some screen printing my senior year of high school. Designed a couple of shirts, nothing too fancy. And I sort of helped when Julianna was teaching Roger during his short-lived brush with t-shirt making. But nothing since then.

Which is not to say that I wouldn't jump at the chance, given the opportunity.

The original plan for our current living situation--and by our I mean Lauren and I--was to use the little adobe shed outback as a printmaking studio, but it proved to be too cramped for such endeavours. Screen printing really is the easiest thing in the world once you know the process... the problem is acquiring the space and materials.

As an illustrator, I'm sure you're familiar with the detestable medium known as colored markers. SIDE STORY! When I was in high school, this representative from Bradley University came to my AP class to try and convince us to attend such a wonderful institution. His name was Floyd Hopewell. He would go on and on about how he knew Bill Cosby, as if that was a big deal. He'd show us some art, the skill level we could hope to achieve at Bradley University. At the end of his presentations, he would always sit down and draw caricatures of the six or so students in the AP class. Caricatures. Once he showed us a disgusting drawing of a Canon camera, super-saturated and blurry as fuck. "We'll show ou how to work with markers like this." Needless to say, I never applied to Bradley.
Anyway, the tool that was used to make that camera illustration so terrible was a blending marker. It's just like a regular marker, except instead of pigment it contains a chemical called xylene. It's basically a solvent that, when applied to an image, picks up the pigment from it's surface and shifts it about. Now, if you were to, say, make a laser print or xerox of one of your illustrations, the xylene would have the same effect on the toner of the printout. Here's the cool part: it doesn't just shift the pigment on it's surface, but to another surface as well (if that's what you desire). Simply apply the photocopy/print face down to whatever (wood, fabric, genitals), use the blending marker to saturate the paper, then use any sort of blunt object (I prefer the head of a wooden spoon) to transfer the toner... brisk rubbing across the back of the paper. I use this method all the time when I'm doing prototype packaging for my record label. Print out some text and slap it onto a box, t-shirt, whatever.

This reply turned out way longer than I expected it to, but my point is this: get your illustrations on some clothing, boy.

I am very slightly familiar with the blending marker technology. Which is to say, I've heard of them. How many uses could one conceivably get out of said marker? Because if there's a cheap way to toss this stuff on, say, an etsy store (cheap as in viable for me to do, not in terms of final product, naturally) I'd be all over that like you on your wiener dog.

And I assume that by Bradley University you mean Bradley Academy?

I did a batch of 50 shirts, each using an 11x17 print, with a single marker. It really depends on how dense your illustration is. But they have really good mileage.

And yeah, Bradley Academy. Sorry... meds.

Hmm, that bigfoot suit would work well for a t-shirt design. The cat 'stache is delightful and I love the new icon, I think it fits you even better than that fez of yours.

Bigfoot suit was conceived as a t-shirt, so I'm glad you think it would work as such. As for the cat 'stache, it is more delightful as an illustration than in execution. Why is our Sasha so eager to help with the drawing and typing?
